Default oil light

so today scarred me... I was in tampa and on my way home the oil light started flickering... I pulled over checked the oil it was fine, As I incresed the rpm's it went away but I was still nervous.. then the darn light comes on solid I figured I was in for a motor now 5 minutes went by then 45 minutes and I was home no engine tick or tap at all the temp guage never moved from it's normal place... So happy to say it has to be a bad sending unit or a bad wire...

Mine has been coming on at random lately. I think I'm going to have to get ANOTHER one.

lol dodge sending units have been pretty weak since the late 60's.
the old trick was to install a chevy sender as they required even lower pressure to activate the idiot light.
sometimes when your oil gets old and thinned out too much willl cause the light to flicker at low RPMs

the answer= install an oil pressure gauge and ignore the idiot light, at least then you'll have a actual value of what oil pressure you have.

Dodge says oil pressure is 4PSI at curb idle. If the Chevy sender requires even less...

the old trick applies to the old senders
used to be rated
dodge= 15-18psi

chev= 11-13psi

this was long before the neon was ever dreamt of I doubt they can be swapped today. Just mereley illustrating sending units have been a joke for a while, thats why I never rely on idiot lights

Most are anymore for reasons I'm sure you're aware of. That's why when my light comes on, I ignore it and restart the car. Light off.

CHange the oil sensor and see if that helps. Mine use to do that and changed the sensor and solved the problem.

Should be. It's the only one in that area IIRC.
