Replacing my timing belt, Belt walking off pulley

So i figured out why my car was running sluggish and hard on fuel, turned out the original belt had 200,000kms on it, and had stretched a bit. So i picked up a timing belt kit with a new waterpump, and the mechanical tensioner . spent an hour or so getting the belt all lined up . Turned over the crank pulley twice marks lined up , however the belt wants to walk off the pulley. If i keep rotating it over by hand the belt hangs over the cam gear by about 1/8 of an inch. I am wondering if this will correct itself once the engine mount bracket is back in place hence the top two bolts for the tensioner are in place.. Anyone else run into this issue?

is your harmonic balancer installed? that's what keeps the belt in it's track.

No, it wasnt on, i was just rotateing the belt around the 2 times to double check my marks were on the money, and i noticed the belt was hanging off the cam gear 1/8". So when the crank pulley goes back on after the cover goes back on it will hold the belt in place?

Also i upgraded from the hydraluic tensioner to the mechanical tensioner and just noticed that "timing cover modifications may be neccessary"

not sure what i had to do to modify this cover.

Anyhelp would be much appreciated ..
