02 Neon Hesitating in Reverse when it's cold

Hey everyone. Signed up here to address this problem. Hope someone can just give some advice before taking this sucker in to the mechanic.

About a week ago my gf's 2002 Neon started having a transmission issue.

When she puts it into reverse in the mornings the car hesitates before going in to reverse. Only happens in the mornings, works fine any other time, so I'm thinking it's a cold weather problem?

We live in the SF Bay Area so it doesn't get THAT cold here, but since she says that's the only time this happens seems logical.

Anyone familiar with a similar issue?

She says she has no other problems with the car any other time, just in the mornings when she leaves for work around 7am.

Thanks for any insight.

Check trans fluid level first. Need to be ATF plus 4.
The only problem I know with with transmissions when they are hot, and cold is: seal leak.
Cold trans fluid is more stickier, hard to leak, but hard to pump in.
Seals also expand, and seal better when they are warmer.

Might need to replace the solenoid pack.

EDIT
I edited my post above to make it clearer for you to read.
You can try to add additive into your trans fluid. It will stop small leaks.
If not, take your car to a mechanic.
