Default Refinishing 15 year old wheels

This weekend I completed refinishing my 2000 Neon wheels.

I removed all four wheels and applied paint stripper to help remove the factory clear coat.

I then sanded the stubborn areas and masked off the wheel. I left the very edge unpainted because I figure the next time tires are installed the paint would get scratched.

I then primered the wheel.

After two lite coats and one wet coat of primer I let the wheels dry. I then started the graphite gray color from Dupli-color.

Graphite paint

Today I was able to shoot the clear coat on and that required a second masking.

Total supplies used:
2 cans filler primter
2 cans graphite wheel paint
2 cans clear coat for wheels
1 roll fancy $4.99 masking tape
1 roll $1.79 masking tape
small tablet of paper for masking the tire off

The paint directions says the paint will need to cure for 7 days. I am leaving the car on stands for the week and next saturday I will have the wheels balanced again and then I'll put them back on the car.

Just thought I would share in case anyone has tired looking wheels.

Looks good! Next time don't be afraid to paint the lip of the wheel. That's what touchless tire mount machines are for
