Timing Belt

Just wondering how long can you let the timing belt go on a neon. I took a look at replacing it it looks like a huge job.

I would change it at 90,000

RE: Timing Belt

An article on the 2.0L SOHC engine on the Allpar web site recommends changing the belt and pulleys at 60,000 miles (96,000 km) under normal service. The engine is of the "self-destructive" type i.e. the pistons will hit the valves in case the chain is damaged or broken and the timing is lost.

you mean belt...and 2.4s dont have that problem. Only 2.0 sohc and dohc do. And they go in upwards to 105000 miles, also the water pump shoud be replaced as well.

Don't forget the thermostat.
I'm at around 78,000 miles and I'm about to have my timing belt, water pump, belts, thermostat, etc. replaced. Since I have to go down there and replace something else, I figured I might as well get all that stuff out the way.
Yes; 90,000 miles is about the time u change the timing belt.

I agree. my car is at 80k right now and i just bought all the parts for the timing belt. i figured that i want to replace the cam gear with an adjustable one so it would be the perfect time to do it. but from what everyone tells me, the belt should get replaced at 105k. though i really dont suggest waiting till then. I lost my last Neon that way.[:@]
