Engine balancing versus flexplate balancing are different things. If it is a used flexplate, it has already been "balanced" or whatever you want to call it IF it still has the weights on it. The weights are spot welded onto the flexplate, so it is easy to check and see if any weights are missing.
right, but wasnt it put on a certain way at the factory? or is there a groove or something to line it up?

Balanced involves a process of rotating at high speed (or sometimes low) so if it is not still attached, it really isn't balanced any longer. It is just weighted.
so if the flexplate is no longer on, and i put one on, will everything be ok? because the 360 is externally balanced...
Look at condition, and make sure weights appear to be similar size. Excessive size comapred to another weight, large number of weights, or damage to flexplate are the things I would look for. Maybe other thing is if weights were there and are now gone.
^^^ Yea what he said. One bolt if offset which makes the flexplate only able to install one way.

you guys are the best! i didnt realize the bolt pattern was offset. i thought it was an even bolt cirlce.
