Speaking of wiring fires...
My 72 d100 cooked its engine bay wiring harness one time, due to a short originating from the electric choke. stupid electric choke. well, i disconnected the choke (which didnt work anyways) and sealed off the wires so it wouldn't happen again, and started er right up. Burnt to a crisp wiring harness and all. Altenator worked, engine ran great, no issues whatsoever. I drove it like that for several more months until I tried to replace the whole burnt harness, which in turn caused another short to surface, burning it up again. If it aint broke... Well i pretty much gave up on it after that. That was my first truck, took my girl (now fiance) to prom in it, lots of good (and less than good) memories in that Bahama yellow rust bucket. Still have it, its a parts truck, and lawn art.
