Default Nereaga's Truck Thread

Hey Guys,

Being that I am finding all the fun stuff that a 30-40 minutes test ride didn't show with regards to my truck, figured I'd just start a thread.

Just for ****s and giggles I went and checked the oil, been about 1K miles since fresh oil change. Well, loosing it! Plenum was checked AND SEEMED like no oil was pooling in intake and I will still be getting that taken care of, plate is in hand!

Looked under truck and found this, back BEHIND the oil pan, like where the tranny meets....

Also have started to notice a knocking sound, like metal on metal when hitting bumps. I noticed that the stabilizer bar bushings are all cracked on both sides of bushing on both sides of truck. Could this be the culprit? I looked in the haynes manual and they look easy to replace.

Thanks Guys!

Looks like you are getting a bit of seepage from the rear main. Not enough to worry about as yet.

Replace the bushings..... they are toast.

Lower shock bolts being slightly loose is another place to look.

I was under my truck just yesterday (have an urge to cut out the cat and weld in a pipe, looking things over) and noticed the same black gunk.

I would guess a rear main seal leak.

Edit:
HeyYou beat me to it.

It could also be a weeping rear intake gasket, org was made out of cork and they don't last for ever. Check to see if you have any signs of oil on the top of the tranny.

Sweet! Good to know. I have to add that I can feel the knock in the steering wheel. Make a difference?

If you can feel it in the steering wheel, I would check ilder arm, ball joints, tie rod ends, and pitman arm as well.

You may have a couple of issues going on.

This is good to know and the reason for starting this ongoing thread!

Good thing it is getting nicer out now, plenty of work...

Well, heading over to my buddies house tonight, the mechanic, to diagnosed parts needed for this weekends project. Tightening up the front end. Let's hope she don't need too much!

Will update with what the task/tasks will be later tonight.

If you feel the knock in the steering wheel, the bushing on the bottom of the column out under the brake booster might be bad. http://www.rocksolidramtrucksteering.com/

I thought about this also, but if the knock is derived from hitting bumps, i suspect suspension problem first, then the rocksolid if suspension is all good. I had a similar issue and installed the rocksolid....problem was original shocks at 134,000 miles, with worn bushings.

But I don't feel that the rocksolid fix was wasted money, as the bushing in the colum was worn. I had so many issues to start - where do I begin!
