would sanding off the chrome and repainting it to match the body color be possible?

No.
The color-match bumpers are black steel from the factory. Getting rid of chrome that is in half-way-decent shape is a pain.

I meant just on the grill, isnt that just a sticker over plastic?

I know mine is trying to separate and chip, so, it might be possible.

mine is bubbling, I think I'll get one from a scrap yard, that way if it turns out crappy I dont have to live with it. like my dash!!!

....my bumper is small....half of it fell off while i was driving.....i ran it over lol my poor sport.

Prefer the Sport personally... but the classic big rig look has its charme no doubts...

That bumper looks pretty intresting,The only thing I dont like is the 2 hugh fog light holes.

Friend did this once and prep is most important! The first time he peeled most of the chrome off and sanded the rest off,took forever and didnt take all of it off. He then painted it the color he wanted. Only lasted 1 month before the paint bubbled over just like the chrome.The bug splat also didnt help with this process. Eventually he just decided to put a new black grille and to settle with that.I honestly would just buy a different color grille unless you have the time and money to re-sand,re-paint, un-chrome,every time it needs it.
