Default The End?

My Ram self destructed in glorious fashion last week. Something locked up somewhere in the drive train. Transmission, transfer case, or rear diff is my guess. Haven't been able to find out where yet because at the same time, my rear wheel fell off - sheared all 5 lug nuts right off. Not sure why or how that even happened, but it did, and had something to do with whatever broke/locked up. Transmission currently has no forward gears or park. Only reverse works. Haven't looked in the diff housing yet or dropped the trans pan to see what problems might be in there. Also possible the transfer case locked up.

So now that I am staring at a repair bill that is potentially going to be more then the truck is even worth, i'm thinking this might be the end of old Silver. It's 14 yrs old with 140k on it, so it might just be that time.

Dig into it, see what you find. Decide from there.

And post pics.

Sorry 'bout your luck man.

Good to read no one was hurt.

I would think the rear diff packed it in hard very hard. I would look for a beater 2500 v8 5 spd gas truck max price $800 then take all its running gear (shy of the motor) and put it under Silver. You would have to buy 8 bolt wheels but oh well.

Sorry to read about your misfortune.

While repairs could exceed the monetary value of the truck, how much is the truck worth to YOU?

Here's the picture I took when it was on the side of the road. Notice the sheered off lug nuts. It bent the drum when it landed on it (made it oblong instead of round). Then when the drum fell off it drug on the brakes pads/springs and backing plate - ruining both. Also drug on the u-bolts when the backing plate ran off the pavement.

I'm at the point in my life were putting a 3/4 axle in my truck really isn't worth the effort. I went and test drove a couple different used trucks tonight (new is just more then I want to spend right now). One 2008 and one 2009. Both Hemi, 4x4, and a fraction of the mileage my truck has on it. Might make a decision on one tomorrow.

I don't think the truck is worth to me what it once was. I did a lot of work to it and really enjoyed it. But if it is going to now cost me more then it is worth to keep it on the road, that is not enjoyable at all.

Glad no one was hurt. Sometimes you just got to know when to say enough is enough....

Ya, I had just started accelerating when it happened, so speed was under 10 mph. I was about to be doing 65 mph, so I am definetly glad it happened when it did, and not a minute or two later.
