Default E-fan install

Hey yall, I'm in the process of installing an E-fan. I'm ready to install the thermostat and just looking at locations. I can either use a splice that came with the kit I bought to place it in the radiator hose, but i'm wondering if It would be better/easier to place it here on the radiator

Would I be able to just drill a hole and cut threads or is there more to it than that?
Opinions?

don't cut a hole in the radiator. the side tanks are plastic and super fragile. there's no material to cut threads into.

no personal experience with efan's but a temp sensor in the radiator return hose seems like a good idea. that way the fan only runs when the cooled coolant exceeds something like 140.
