Tire size to gear ratio ?

I have a 96 r1500 ex cab 4x4 5.2 auto ! It has 4.56s front and rear and 34-10.50-16 super swampers ! If i go up to 35s or 37s with it pull my camper better or worse ? I am thinking it is over geared but with bigger tires will it have more rollout ?

Here's the typical guide for ratio - tires:
4:10 - 33"
4.56 - 35"
4.88 - 37"

In theory it will pull your camper a little worse if you go to a slightly larger tires because your rpms will be lower with larger tires. But I personally wouldn't worry about it because your geared pretty good anyways.

If you go to 35s you'll be fine. If you go to 37s ya might wanna go to the 4.88s. I have the stock gears in mine with 35s and it sucks.

Yeah but it wouldn't really be worth it to spend $1000+ to gain .3 a gear, know what I mean.

If I were you man I would move up to 35s and caller a day.

Stock setup is 3.55 gear ratio with 31.5" tires. With a 4.56 gear ratio, you will run equivalent RPM's to a stock setup on 40.5" tires. However, factor in the greater moment of inertia and rolling resistance of larger tires and you will probably want to be running a bit higher RPM than a stock setup to better hold a gear on the highway, as well as for towing. With 4.56's you should be fine to tow moving up to even a 37-38" tire.

Related question:

I am running 33s with stock 3.92s and want to be eventually at 4.56s for 35s but I am trying to figure out if swap gears now or wait till I go to 35s. I have read that running with too large of tire will kill the transmission(which I don't have money to replace anytime soon). Should I pay the $500 for new gears or save it for other projects?

I've been running mine with 35s and 3.55s for over a year. I baby it though. :p

Yeah, I don't do any of that.

I wouldnt worry about it. 4.56 with 37 would be a LIL tall. But pretty close to stock ratio.

At that point its time to start thinking about an axle swap or at least beefing up your 44.
