Default New toys for the truck! Pics

Finally sold my mazda so i could have some money to put in my dodge, so i went shopping!

Yesterday my leveling kit from HBS came in and I found this roll bar on craigslist for $75, I talked them down to 60! I took my liner, toolbox and antenna off and set the bar in the bed to check out the look and i like it alot. Now i have to do some cutting to get the liner back on.

Here is my question. The roll bar has some rust on it, so i wanted to sand it down and re paint it but I have no idea how I could keep it chrome without paying a huge amount of money to get a shop to re chrome it. any ideas?

With the rest of the money im getting the the plenum fixed with a full tune up. Might take me a while though.

That rollbar is almost identical to mine, except my front legs go straight down...

For the rust spots I used SOS pads and then some chrome polish. Makes a huge difference but you'll never get it absolutely brand new looking without getting it re chromed.... it musta been sittin somewhere to rust like that, mine has rust spots along the front of the top bar and the front of the rear kicker bars, just where the rain and stuff hits it while driving...

If I was in your shoes...I would go gloss black on the roll bar and a DIY roll-on bedliner...it would be inexpensive...under $150 and only 6-8 hrs of your time depending on how fast/quality of your work. I really like how lordofsal3m renewed his roll bar...came out looking awesome!

I agree with bigslick. That would look sick gloss black especially that your truck is a sport.

I would have it blasted and powdercoated black. Cheaper and more durable than chrome.

So I finally got some free time and finished my roll bar. Changing it to black would have looked pretty cool but im trying to stick with the chrome accents on the black paint. So when I feel like getting it re chromed i will but for now I went the easy way. I sanded down the areas with rust and primered it. I got a can of spray chrome from a friend (Dont know the brand) and touched up the bad areas. Then I put on a clear coat to make it shiny. As you can see in the pic, its pretty dang close to the rest of the chrome.
