I want to get the ramairbox but I do not have the money for it right now so I was wondering if this would be a good thing to substitute it with?

My Filter
I know, I know, it's not a K&N filter, someone stole it! but I like this, it seems like I have more power, though I know my MPG is very low because of it also!

The open filter looks the best (IMO) and is cheapest. From a performance standpoint, it is the worst.

so lets say we want more power annnnnnd heres the hook, better gas milage, my 11.3 mpg isnt great lol. Thennn what set up would u suggest?

Yeah I want to know the same thing, the setups suggested were not suggested for performance so it boggles my mind lol.

Ram air will yield best mpg at highway speeds. Some of the guys running an open filter claim to have gotten better mpg's from the swap. I am starting to think, for all around fuel mileage (city & hwy), the open filter might be best. Basically, around town,iat sensor readings are going toshoot up significantly and the pcm is going to pull fuel and timing. Keep in mind, an open filter may cause a motor that has a propensity to ping to do so, and even on a healthy motor performance 'should' suffer. Open filters are relatively cheap. If you drive in the city alot, it might be worth a shot to throw one on there and see what happens.

Unfortunately power annnnnd fuel mileage can sometimes be hard to achieve. When it all boils down, the power is contained within the gas. The more you can effectively burn on each stroke, the more power you will have.

Gas mileage is a conumdrum similar to the elusive low end torque.
A K&N is "supposed" to make an engine breath better sooooo Does more air in mean the computer will mix more fuel? Less mpg?[sm=confused06.gif]
A performance exhaust is less restrictive than stock so more air can flow sooooo Does the computeradd more fuel to maintain the correct A/F ratio?[sm=confused06.gif]
A CAI is supposed to supply air cooler than under the hood sooooo Does the cooler air need the corresponding fuel increased compared to hot underhood air? Less mpg? [sm=confused06.gif]
A 180 stat is supposed to increase mpg. So does a cooler than 195deg engine use less or more fuel?[sm=confused06.gif]

With the mods I have, my round open filter noticably outperforms the stock filter assembly and the K&N FIPK. I'm talking initial throttle response and top end performance. So to make a blanket statement that open filters perform the worst is just not true in all cases. There are a lot of other factors to consider.
