Default 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 5.9L

Hey I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 with the 5.9L in it, im in the military and currently over seas... Within the last week or so i have purchased many items that i believe will 1) increase power and 2) MPG's... Here is the list of items that i have recently purchased... Jet performance Chip stage 2, Flowmaster 40 series, K&N Cold Air intake, and a Jet Performance throttle body spacer.... I would like to know if any one has any good ideas for more easy upgrades... Also im looking in to headers and would like to know whats a good "bang for the buck" brand, so far the edelbrock shorty headers are in the lead for me..... Any help would be appreciated!

Fist off cancel your order for the Throttle body spacer. It will provide nothing but a sucking sound from your wallet as your money is wasted. On some motors they work well and have been proven. This forum's memebrs have done alot with them and found that in some cases they actually hurt the motors performance and mileage. Cancel your order and email Dan Arcand at Thefastman.com. Get yourself a new complete Throttle body from him. When I had my 97 5.9 gasser I got one of those and was very pleased. Secondly Thanks for serving. You will find alot of service members on this forum. I am currently Active duty AF, and have spent time in Iraq myself. Also check out the DIY for this section. Ther si a download for many many cheap or free things you can do with that motor to free up a few ponies. Good luck and when you get a chance let's see your rig.

I would ask him if he added that at the same time as another add on, or what motor he has. It has worked somewhat on the V-6, but the way the intake is designed on the 5.2 and 5.9 there is no way a throttle body spacer can perform. What spacers actually do, or in theory do, is as air goes through them it causes that air to spin. Now in other designs that can work, because as that spinning air leaves the spacer the spin can be held through the intake runners to the valves. The intake design of our motrs is such that the air leaving the throttle body or the spacer as it were enters a huge chamber full of seperate runners, but nonetheless a large empty chamber. There is no possible way the spinning effect can hold up under those conditions. A friend of mine has a v-6 Ranger and I can defintely tell the differance after he installed his spacer. It just scientifically does not work on that motor. Hope this helps.

Send your Jet chip back too. There's a member here named RM_Indy who has a page dedicated to Jet. It's called jet chip sucks.com or something like that.[sm=icon_rofl.gif] I will find it and post back.

the PCM in the truck will actually learn istelf around the chip and after a while give you OEM performance instead of the chips performance...

ither hypertech, superchips, handheld programers are the way to go... or if you wanna get narly with the big bucks... a B&G flash,, but thats advised to do after your wished mods are completed to get the full effect of both working in harmony.
