Why don't I have 4x4 anymore?
 

I just picked my truck from the mechanic. Now I do not have 4x4. The mechanic replaced the catalytic coverter, changed the tranny and adjusted the bands. Could he have bumped a switch by accident?

1996 auto 2500 5.9 4x4

He probably cooked one of the plastic vaccum lines going to the 4x4 motor on the front axle if he torched off the old cat. The lines are mounted on the frame rail just in front of the cat which is where they switch from metal hard lines to plastic lines.

I'm guessing that you have 4wd, just not the light on the dash. Same area, but he probably just knocked off the harness off the CAD unit which is what turns on the dash 4wd light.
