1995 dodge ram 1500 poor acceleration

I have a 1995 dodge ram 1500 extended cab 4x4 5.9L that I need help with. My problem is when I step down with any speed on the gas pedal the engine cuts out, back fires, and of course has a loss of speed. I also heard a weird hissing noise coming from the gas tank area, but tank didn't have pressure when I opened the gas cap. I just changed the oil and plugs. It was doing this cutting out thing before that but the hissing is new. I have no check engine light going on. I'm just lost as to where I should start looking for the problem. I'm leaning toward cleaning injectors and maybe fuel pump? Any help would be very appreciated.

Welcome To DF

diagnose the problem before going on
try and find the noise with a friend
maybe an EVAP hose lose loose or broken causing some vacuum issues

I'll check it out today, since it does sound like it's coming from above the gas tank. (the hissing noise) Would that cause the other problems too?

I can't comment on the hissing noise because that hasn't happened with my '95 Ram 1500 5.2 yet. I had a similar driveability problem with my truck though. I cleaned the throttle body, replaced the MAP and TPS sensors, and the truck continued to have the same symptoms as you describe. In the end, I replaced the single O2 sensor and now it runs like new. If you search my postings you'll get a better idea if our problems were the same. Also, on my truck, I was able to get the fault codes using the on-off-on-off-then leave on method, which came up #21, indicating the possibility of a bad O2 sensor.Hope this helps.

Changed the O2 sensor today, but no luck. It's still running bad. I went to the auto parts and it seems to be majority vote from customers and employees of the store my fuel pump is on the way out. Dropping the tank is to much of a job for me so I'll hang my head and go to the repair shop. Thank for the help here
