Also the way i look at it, people say "well i will never need 4 wheel drive" but trust me there will be ONE time that u will need it, and the 5+ hours u lose + the tow truck bill + more is worth just buying it a 4x4 in the first place . And + its not a truck if it isent a 4x4
hey i get free towing with allstate so if i get stuck thats no problem. but i really wish i had a 4X4 though
Nope, free towing is for on road, i called once b/c i have it also, But they call it a "off Road accicent" and they will not senD a tow truck. Even if u call one most tow trucks will not go down deep enough to get u.
oh well. i wouldnt take my truck off roadin anyway.

like mudd said, if it aint 4x4 it aint a truck
when we were lookin for a truck i made it clear that i wanted a 4X4 truck, but my dad said no because that it was useless and just another part that will break. needless to say i was PISSED
Hey don't feel bad. My dad use to say crazy **** like that. And for years he just thought I was on dope when I would talk about offroading. Till I snuck it on him one time. He was pissed for about 30 seconds, loved it after that. Calls me to take him now and again.

I've had 2 4x4's but only used them occasionally when I was at the ranch. Now that I have 5, 4wheelers, I don't need 4 wheel drive in my truck anymore. The truck sits at the house now and we can get anywhere on the ranch with the 4 wheelers. Have used the wheelers to pull my small 8' trailer with deer blinds, feeders, corn, trash, anything within reason (1200lbs towing). I'd say it's cheaper to operate a 2WD but experience has taught me different, however, it is cheaper to maintain a 2 wheel drive. Just my opinion, if money was unlimited, I'd have a Dodge Power Wagon!

lol i remember when my dad used to think 4x4 was stupid. Then when he bought a new truck in 1999, it came with 4x4, and man did he fall in love with it. It can get you out of anything. I mean even if you dont do off-roading, sometimes you find yourself falling off a weird embankment, and then you can't get out. Just click it in to 4x4, and bam, you will most likely get out. It's also serves as a HUGE safety value. Can anybody say snowstorms??! Or icey/slushy roads, wow, I'd never drive a truck with out it,

Honestly, if you know how to drive and have good tires, 4x4 is rarely used. Unless you venture off road, or travel in very bad conditions.
I have a 4x4 and I only use it while offroading, mostly when I get stuck in 2wd or when trying to crawl up steep inclines. On the road, I've only used it when pulling cars out of ditches and snow banks. LOL

Good tires make a huge difference. That and a locker.

I will agree with anyone that 2wd sucks when you have an open diff and in reality you only have 1wd.

Well later on after many many beers on the back porch it was admitted that he was just trying to keep me from buying a nicer vehicle than him lol.

I agree with not needing to use 4wd on the road, but it sure is nice to have the option. I build a frame out of 2X10s and it sits in my bed over the wheel wells and I put about 250-300 pounds of sandbags in it in the winter and I don' have problems, didn't in my 2wd either really. Difference is when I feel the *** end start to kick out I grab for that lever automatically now. I really, really like my 4wd. Not to mention 4 LO... I think 2wd trucks should have a low gear setting as well, even if it is only back 2 wheels.
