4.56's on there way!!!
Just got word today that my Yukon 4.56's are on there way. Should be here before the end of the week hopefully. I had such a hard time going between 4.10's and 4.56's and reading for weeks here and on PS and Pirate about what the pro's and con's would be. Gas prices suck, but I decided heck with it...It's a truck, let it BE a truck. Either way, I'm pretty excited to see how this will turn out.
On another note, I need to hurry and finish rebuilding this t-case so I can drop it in while my driveshaft is off already. If anyone followed my multiple posts about trying to troubleshoot my 4x4 problem, I found out the previous owner grenaded the t-case. yipee... |

Well then that's even more ofa reason to go with the lower gears lol. You got an extra gear to suck gas mileage out of ;)

Always exciting waiting for new parts for sure.
You will like your 4.56's with your 35's and your 5spd. Thats a very well matched combo, 4.88's would have worked well with an auto, but with your 1st gear being so much lower than the auto's 1st gear, you would have hated 4.88's, it would have been too low. I put 5.13's in for 37's and it was way too low. Then I swapped tires for 38.5's and now it's still lower than stock, but much better now and mine is a 5spd as well. Once you get them, how long before they are installed??? |

congrats. let us know all the details and send pics.
can you put up pics for the t-case ? you doing the gear setup yourself or having it done ? |
RE: 4.56's on there way!!!
stupid question....but you did grab 2 sets of gears right ;)?

RE: 4.56's on there way!!!
Don't people with a 5 speed manual understand
that you can find out what it is like to have 4.56 gears just by staying in the lower gears, and never using 5th gear? Rock crawlers might consider for a few moments to go to 4.56 gears on a 9.25 diff but the devices like the Kune underdrive are far better and can be installed on your next vehicle too. An experienced 'hard core' rock crawler wouldn't waste money on 9.25 upgrades....the 9.25 is far from the best design. Swapping to Dana 60 diffs front and rear would also give a far wider choice of ratios up to 6.50 http://www.autohobbydigest.com/dana.html |

Well I doubt he's gonna do any hardcore rock crawling in his Daily Driver, but that is a good article Hank.

I want to finish rebuilding my t-case before I install them though and I managed to get frostbit two days ago. That's really put a damper on things. As far as the install goes, I will be hiring it out (kinda) since I don't have all the tools. However, I will be helping out so it won't be quite as expensive and I am interested in learning as well. I've never done gears before, but I plan on learning and doing them on the side for others later on in life. I'll see what I can do about pictures. As far as the t-case rebuild, would anyone be interested in seeing a write-up of that, or are there other sources and I shouldn't bother taking the time? |
