Derale 14110 Transmission Pan with cooling
I was flipping through my Summit catalog and found Derale Transmission pans.
model 14110 is for the 518 and adds 3 more qts and a drain plug. Just wondering if anyone here is using it.... its only $81.95. http://www.derale.com/pans.html I might pick up one of these when I get the tranny oil/filter changed. |

i saw those. it looks like there's a lot of things that could go wrong. mud, rust, leaks, etc.
i think a cooler would do a better job of cooling. and i think this hughes pan would be a better option on extra capacity. i think i'll get one of these later this year. the kit includes a filter. http://www.jsrautospecialties.com/se...on-pan,/Detail |

Good find vaughan! I'd suggest a non-cork gasket. I ran one of those cork rubber gaskets and couldn't get it to seal properly, I think they're too flat. The rubber seals have more thickness to them.

Unless I am missing something, they do not have one listed for the 46RE. |

ORIGINAL: Jr. Mechanic Unless I am missing something, they do not have one listed for the 46RE. A518 is the same as46RH &46RE. Found that out when I was doing research on getting my "518" rebuilt. Google "dodgetransmission 518" http://www.google.com/search?q=Dodge...mp;startPage=1 Also read that you can use a 727 pan/gasket in the 518, think I read that in this forum. People were doing that to gain more capacity and a drain plug. Edit: just did a forum search on the 727. Its not a larger capacity.... |

dhvaughan,
Were you the person who installed the B&G Transmission Filter? hows that working out? I want to get the perma-cool deluxe. So I can get both functions of it filtering and housing the sending unit for my transmission temp gauge. I am just leary of it affecting line pressure and restricting flow... how long have you had it? do you tow anything? |

ORIGINAL: 98DodgeRam1500 dhvaughan, Were you the person who installed the B&G Transmission Filter? hows that working out? how long have you had it? do you tow anything? works good. i've had it about a year. i don't have a temp gauge, so i can't really say how much good its doing, but i figure its doing something and it might extend the life of the transmission. i tow a boat occassionally, not much. a friends tractor a couple times a year. haul a lot of wood. the remote filter is handy. given all the hundreds (or thousands) of posts here about transmissions, i try to change the fluid every year. this past year i used the drain plug in the pan :) and replaced the remote filter and called it done. this coming year i think i'll get the Hughes pan and change the internal filter. |
