I had this very thing happening right now!
I slammed on my brakes this morning in the rain to avoid hitting an idiot.
All day my brakes have been making that "grind" of the ABS noise on and off. The lights for both Brake and ABS are on after I start to move.
I took the kids out to dinner and drove home 15 miles per hour having everyone pass me on a two lane road!!! I didn't want to go any faster and not be able to stop.
Yes, when I left the restaurant I pushed the brakes and got the abs grind and stiff peddle with NO stopping power at all. Then as I pull into our street, 1 mile down the road, I brake into our driveway fine.
I checked the fluid, it was between full and add, it was hot. I can't remember if you check brake fluid hot or cold. It might need fluid, but that isn't the reason for the above behavior.
Every stinking time I take it to the dealership for something, something else goes wrong.
1) Feb took it in for the recall on the ignition, the "resistor pack" for the a/c fan speed goes
2) Finally take it in to have the resistor pack installed last week b/c I can't get to it with simple tools, like they told me -- and now the brakes!
I swear the dealership is the cause.
