35's with 3 inch lift

I have a 95 with a 3 inch lift and its time for new tires. I have a set of brand new 35x12.50 R15 laying in the shop that I was going to use on a project truck that never came to be. I wanted to use them on my ram, but everywhere I see says you need at least a 5 inch lift to fit them. They look like they will fit as she sits now, but I don't know whether to get 15x8 inch or 15x10 inch wheels or what kind of backspacing I need. Does anybody out there know what I need to do to get them to fit?

Mine are on a 16x8 wheel. They fit with some fender 'adjustments'.

I had what were "called" 35" tires on my '98 with just a 3" body lift. They were metric sized and I can't remember the exact size, but in actuality they measured something like 34.2" x 12.8" and fit pretty well. A little rubbing inside the tire well on turns that eventually wore or burned the spots off the plastic that rubbed. So with a true 35" tire on 3 inches of lift, I think you are gonna have to do a little bit of trimming... If I remember correctly, the aftermarket wheels were about a 4.5" backspace...

You know, I wish I had that backspace number memorized cause I was aggravated every time I asked someone the same question before I bought mine. It's like opposite what the stock wheel is. It might even be standard, I don't know. Mine are the steel streetlock wheels. The black ones that look like beadlocks. 4.5" sounds about right. One thing that is nice, is that the tire is balanced when mounting now. With the stock wheel, you throw it on the studs and it wants to lean out until you put a lug nut on. These, you throw it on and it stays straight up and down.

Not sure on the backspacing but if you want any chance of fitting them get a 8" wide wheel. My 33"s on a 10" wide wheel rub when I hit a bump or anything at full lock. I think 35"s would really rub but this is because of the wheel being so wide. Some have gotten away with them on 8" wide wheels.
