Default Evap Canister Purge Solenoid Diagnosis

Hello All,

I have a 1997 Ram 1500, 5.2L Auto 4x2. My MIL came on and after cycling the ignition switch on-off-on-off-on, I get code 31, which indicates a problem with the Evap Canister Purge Solenoid Circuit. How can I confirm that it's the solenoid that's bad, as opposed to an electrical problem? Do I test the voltage to the solenoid with the engine running and warmed up? Is it 12v that I'm looking for? Or can I just do a continuity test on the solenoid itself (with electrical disconnected)? Thanks for any help!

I have the same code and was also wondering what I can do to get rid of it. Maybe just go to the wreckers and price a used solenoid?

Don't believe it could be a faulty solenoid. I get the error from time to time and it's because I've had fuel "waterlog" my charcoal filter. One of these days, I'm going to replace the charcoal and filter element.

DUTY CYCLE EVAP/PURGE SOLENOID
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) operates the EVAP/Purge solenoid by providing a ground path on circuit K52. Circuit K52 connects to PCM cavity C20. Circuit F18 supplies battery voltage to the EVAP/Purge solenoid.

HELPFUL INFORMATION
In the RUN or START position, the ignition switch connects circuit A1 from the Power Distribution Center (PDC) and circuit A21. Circuit A21 feeds circuit F18 through fuse 9 in the fuse block.
Circuit F18 splices to supply battery voltage to the EGR solenoid and connects to cavity A2 of the PCM.
