use a big wrench and a rubber hammer
|
another question, do you turn the nut clockwise (Like on a watch) or counter clockwise. Like "righty tighty, lefty loosy". What size wrench do I need to loosen the nut holding the fan. My truck is 98, 5.9l 2wd. any help is appreciated.

Not sure what the wrench size is, I would guess around 1" or so. Its a standard thread so "lefty loosey"

Use an adjustable wrench or a monkey wrench, then give that puppy a good strong whack!

i have a 2003 dodge ram 1500 v-6. first time i changed a water pump. only took me an hour total. first thing i did was took out the drain plug on the radiator and flushed the system with the engine running and heater turned on...did this for about 10 min. then drained it all. next i took the fan off the water pump by sticking two bolts in the water pump pully and using a file and a pipe wrench to loosen it. like in the pic. next unscrewed the fan housing - 4 phillips screws, then the fan and housing comes out....next i put a socket on the belt tensioner and took the belt off. then i started taking off the 7 bolts holding the pump on....you will have to take off the lower pulley that im pointing to in the pic to get the lower bolt out...and just loosen the bolt holding the top plastic air box on top to get to the top bolt on the water pump.. then off comes the water pump......pretty easy.. goes back the same way. i did put a high temp silicone gasket sealant on new pump and in bolt holes...

the new water pump cost 50.00 and about 15 for the coolant and gasket sealant
