Default Transfer case inspecton

As im writeing this im headed how side to rip out my transfer case.

It was bone dry, Wines very loud, and some times, will not deliver any power, it can keep the truck from moving.

What do I need to be looking for, to see if its bad, or just needs a miner thing fixed

If it was ran dry..... I would take a very close look at EVERY part..... especially bearings.

dont rebuild a wimpy 231 toss it and grab you a used 241 its way stronger than the 231 and it bolts right up. you can prob get one for about 100 bucks off craigslist, i pulled mine out of a flooded truck for 30 buck.
