Unhappy Holy Plenum Leak Batman!

So today while I was checking the trans fluid and oil in my truck I decided to finally pull the intake off and check the plenum for oil. I have always suspected that it was leaking as I am burning a slight bit of oil but oh my god. I shined the flash light down there and it was like I was looking into a valve cover. There was a nice pool of oil down there. No wonder why my truck has been steadily loosing power.

Well, I guess the next thing on my list is to fix that. While I am at it I am planning on pulling the heads too to check for any cracks and to fix the possible head gasket leak that I have. I am leaking a little oil and anti-freeze down the block, but no oil in the coolant or vice versa. Ohh well. Wish me luck!

It is really not a hard job. Just time consuming. Mine way really bad too, but I was burning about 1 QT of oil per 100 miles.

Yeah, i'm not too concerned about it. I've done a couple head gaskets in the past. One on a '92 Cavalier 2.2L 4 banger and the other on a '95 Grand Prix 3.1L V6.

I might be getting laid off (yup, I live in Michigan) in about 3 weeks and if that happens then I will have all the time in the world to get it done and do it right. I just hope my modification bug doesn't crawl up my @$$ and convince me to by HS 1.7 RR's that I can't really afford right now!

So I've been surfing e-bay a bit and I came across this head gasket kit. AutoZone wants 100+ for theirs. Do you guys think this kit would be ok or is it garbage?

www.rockauto.com

you can get the full upper engine rebuild kit for $100 or just the felpro headgaskets for $15 a piece and the intake gaskets for about $30.

I suggest the full rebuild kit as you need the belly pan gasket, intake mounting gaskets, and head gaskets. You basically get the Fuel Injector O-rings, Valve cover gaskets, TB gasket, air hat gasket, exhaust header gaskets, and valve seals for free.
All Felpro too, not a bad deal.

Thanks for the tip aim. Whenever I do a head gasket I always make sure to buy the kit so that I can replace all of the seals along the way, it just makes sense! I've never heard of rock auto before, they've got some pretty good prices.

All in all, head gasket set and bolts comes to 144 shipped!
