Another one with ABS/Brake light problem

I have had it with this truck. My 98 2500 2wd V-10. The lights are coming on every now and then and for no apparent reason. I have changed out the rear speed sensor, replaced the pads and shoes, cleaned off the grime and fuzz from the front sensors, yes it has ABS.
Checked all the fuses and relays. I even pulled the rear diff cover and cleaned up the tone ring as well as clean off the tone rings on both front wheels. The only thing I can find left that it needs is a front ball joint replacement job in the near future. I am to the point where a trip to the dealership is next, $$
Any ideas I havent tried??

Since it happens when you turn, it's a loose wire to the front. Ring through the wires while moving them around and see if you don't get an intermittent open on one side.

Might want to check the front hub bearings also.

check the stop light switch for continuity. could be that. have you reset the computer via disconnecting the battery? Do you have a Haynes manual? It shows how to get codes from the abs module computer. I haven't tried it but it's in the book. Let me know if you don't. I can email them to you. I went threw the same problem so I KNOW how frustrating it can be.

I thought of the stop light switch so I used the book and tested it and it was good, according to the book anyways. I tried disconnecting the battery but the lights still comes on every so often. I went a whole week without them coming on and then wham they come up again. I havent tried to get the codes yet but I think I read that for the ABS you cannot get the codes unless you have a reader for ABS. At this point I am just trying to get lights to go out long enough for me to have it inspected by the state. Maybe I should be asking the question of how do I disable the lights so they wont work at all.

take out the bulbs ;)

What happens when you pull the fuse?

drduckman 03-19-2009 01:11 PM

I tried pulling the fuse but that just makes them come on and stay on. I pulled the cluster out to remove the bulbs, had a Ford that the engine light did that and the dealer told me to pull the bulb, but on the Dodge you can pull and replace all the bulbs except those 2,they are behind the sealed circuit board section. Pulling the bulbs was one of the first things I tried to do.

try disconnecting and connecting the plug on the rear sensor a few times, maybe the contacts are corroded. Also make sure the wires are pushed into that half of the plug all the way.

try this. when your driving, put it in cruise control. if it doesn't work then that means that it's you stop light switch. if your cruise control works then it's def not your stop light switch.
