I just replaced my timing chain/gears today and my crank pully and balancer are all one unit. All the searching I have done shows two seperate units, but not mine.

I wonder how well that underdrive deal works. More power, eh... does anything need to be sacrificed for the extra power?

It drops your Alt-out-put. It's good for about 20 HP.
So at idle, you have to be careful running a big stereo
or extra lights. At speed, with the RPM's up, you'll be fine.

it seem to me if the two pullys(alt and crank)were in the same ratio as before, there should be no change in amps.... Bit that just my thought

yes its smaller but it changes the output somehow. It spins faster so less power output or something. I have seen a lot of people on Mustang forums say they had charging issues with underdrives. Then again some had no problems at all. Its pretty much a hit or miss deal with them

2pc steel u/d on a 5.9, probably see about 5rwhp gain. Added March 3pc alum u/d pulleys spring 98 and saw .12 seconds off 1/4m ets which I estimated was a 6-7rwhp gain.

Smaller dia means it spins the alt faster, hence greater charge. Without smaller diam pulley the battery would be dead in a matter of days at most.
No hit & miss with u/d pulleys. Everyone that runs them has charging issues, some just dont admit it lol.
