I does have the chrome step bars. I'm pretty sure when I bought it the guy said it was a "Sport" model. I need to find a new bumper (front) and I want to make sure I get the correct one. Any other way to tell? |

A '96 will have the "Sport" decals on the bed, near the rear. Sport models in 1996 came with painted (body color) bumpers and grille, rather than chrome.

i remember reading somewhere the differences but cant remember real good
the suspension was diff higher, wheels diff, uncrome grill ?? |

Unless you are the only owner of the truck, your best bet would be to have the vin number ran. Call your local dealer and have them run it. Its free, and they can do it in a few minutes.
Look around on here, there are a couple of threads that contain a link to a Vin decoder that will show what you have. Also, you can have it ran online at www.Dodge.com . This usually takes a couple of weeks. Theres your options, so enjoy. |

A 96 sport had the bumpers and grill painted the same as the body color, although they basically had the same style bumper as a non-sport (unlike the 99-02 2nd gens, which had different bumpers). So, if your bumpers and grill are not painted then you dont have a sport, and if they are mix-matched then somebody has been screwing with it.
