What Happens If You Undergear?
 

I know that when people get larger tires, lifts, ect, its alway fun (and sometimes necessary) to regear to lower gears. I know that if you go from 3.55's to 4.10's, just as an example, you might wish you had gone to 4.56's or something.
But out of curiosity, what if you have too much gear for your truck? Say you had like 245/75/16 tires (stock size for most 2nd Gen 4x4 Rams) or 265's, and no lift, and you put in like 4.56 or 4.88 gears, or even 5.13's? How would the truck drive? Would anything be damaged?

No nothing bad would happen mechanically. The problem if you put 5.13 gears in a truck with 245/75/16 tires would be that the trucks new maximum speed would be like 60 mph. So you'd probably be in overdrive at around 2000 rpms around 35mph. So you would probably end up exploding your engine just trying to keep up with traffic...

Your acceleration/ provided you had traction, would be nearly instantanious. The top end without the horses/rpms would be pretty low.

o have a question, how bad would 4.56's be with 285's? id kinda like to do that but do fear the max speed due to the fact i drive insterstate ALOT and i go at a constant 80-90 mph...also i have 265's right now and i planned to go to 285's after these wear out so how bad would the 265's and 4.56's be?

33s and 4.56 would be the balls.
You'd probably be going about 2000-2100rpms at 65 in overdrive

265/75/16s (31s) you'd be going about 2200 rmps at 65 in overdrive
