Transmission upgrades 2001
 

Is the TRANSGO kit # SK TFOD a good upgrade for my 2001 Dodge Ram RE trans? The shift from 3rd to 4th is almost instant. This kit is primarily for the valve body. I am looking to get durability and improve the shifting.

great question for me to answer.... right now i just ordered the same shift kit through aps precision. right now there is an update that trans go is coming out with. this update delayed my order so i called wayne at aps and he gave me the low down. this update is supposed to eliminate the transisters, i believe is what he said. and for $50 more he is sending me the updated kit along with special instructions that he tailored for me, after i told him what i have for a set up, to modify the valve body for my truck. wayne there at aps is one of the engineers that has tested this new kit. he stands by it with 100 % confidence. he actually installed it in his jeep and said it changed the whole attitude of the vehicle. very friendly guy. should be getting it this week and i will have a write up on the outcome hopefully by the weekend.

Hi mikey, thanks for the reply. I started shopping for the TFOD HD2 kit and found summit has the best price. I called Transgo and asked about the recent upgrade you had mentioned. They told me that this kit is current and nothing new has been added. So should I wait to buy this? I am confused.

Mikey, I just talked to Wayne and he told me to get the shift kit with the 3R upgrade and a aluminum accumulator. Is the 3R upgrade the one you were talking about? I told him I am looking for durability more than high performance.
