Engine identification/build
Hey everyone it's been a while since I have been on. Today I was given a magnum engine that I'm told has 5000 miles on it. They guy just needed out of his shop so he can move in a paint booth. I'm needing to know what year it is and if it's a 5.2 or 5.9. If it will bolt into my 95 with the 5.2 I was going to build it on the stand and swap them over. I'm just not sure how to tell.

So is there anyway to tell what year the engine is? The intake does not have a devider plate in it like my 95 has. It also does not look to have egr on the intake. My main concern is would it be worth building this engine in the shop and swapping it over into my 95. I was going to build the 5.2 but if I could build this one it would be even easier to have the truck running until I'm done building this one. I have rt heads for it which should work on the 318 or 360. The only problem is I have a mopar performance 318 computer to put in which won't work with the 360 correct?

Plastic or metal fuel rail? Male or female fuel line connection? No EGR indicates 96 or newer, no center divider makes it even newer. You could use the long block, but, in order to keep your computer happy, you would have to use the exhaust, and intake manifold (and all the sensors) from your original engine.

Lots of differences between the 5.2, and 5.9, bore, stroke, cam, etc. they are externally dimensionally identical though, so, a 5.9 will bolt right in to where a 5.2 sits. 5.9 is also externally balanced, so, you MUST use the correct dampner/flexplate on the 5.9. Given yours is OBDI, you will need to find a new computer for the combo.

I have a good bit of parts for the build already. I have the rt heads, hs 1.6 rockers, new set of lifters, long tube headers An intake off another 95 that is already modified. Just need decide if I want to epoxy fill it or leave it alone. I have the new aluminum plenum plate and gaskets. So I have a start just need help figuring out how to start
