limited slip front diff
#11
If you were lucky enough to locate a used "off road" ram, it would have 4:10s in it, but no front limited slip.
Buying a bare set of used gears is a dicey thing. You may not be able to see stress cracks and also worn bearing surfaces may have been doctored. Unless you're very experienced in reading wear patterns, you might not be able to tell if the gears are or have been run with the proper lash/ pinion spacing. For what most guys ask for a set of used gears you could spend a bit more and buy new ones.
For your Dodge, when you switch to 4:10s you may want to get the newer style "thick set" that will not require you to change your carrier. You probably didn't know that dana 44s can have a carrier for 3:92 and "lower numerical gears" and a carrier for 4:10 and up gears because the thickness of the ring gear changes with the number of teeth. The is because the number of teeth on the pinion changes.
However, rather than read my ramblings or others, I would suggest checking out a few web sites by people who do gear swaps and find out what is entailed.
