Couple of Questions

I have a couple of questions, some things I found while checking the oil this morning and poking around:

What is this connector?

I found it tied up by the horns. it's not the foglight connector because my wires are sitting in my bumper (have the lights out to change the bulbs).

Next, my truck is leaking everything from everywhere. I've already identified the master cylinder leak and the tranny pan, but noticed some more stuff...
First one, is this a leaking valve cover gasket? (Kinda noobish I guess, but I want to make sure)

Second, transmission cooler line...?

The valve cover may need to just be retorqued. They do loosen up. FSM or Haynes has the torque spec. Clean the area up real good, retorque, and monitor. If it continues to leak, replace them.

Affirmative on the tranny cooler line, but are you sure it's leaking? The coolant reservoir is right above it. Clean it up with brake ckeaner and see if it reappears. Could be an abrasion right were it makes contact with the lower radiator hose. I see oil right at that spot on both hoses.

Im not sure what that connector is but i have the same thing its right behind the passenger head light but is connected to nothing.

i thought brake cleaner was bad for rubber.

Miami_Son 08-30-2009 01:01 PM

Never had a problem with it. Brake lines are made of rubber. Carb cleaner, on the other hand...

Alright. I'll clean it up and keep an eye on it.. Need to wash my whole engine compartment anyway.

Would that plug possibly be for the overhead console option that showed the temperature?

I was thinking it, but didn't we have a thread awhile back about that. I believe the connector was in the bumper, mine's behind it by the horns. Unless 97's are different in that regard as well.

Oren, dude, you really gotta clean that engine bay, it's a mess. BTW that tranny hose is where the check valve is located. Keep an eye on it since you don't want your check valve to stick and mess up your tranny. Any problems with that hose replace it or take out the check valve as most people here recommend.

Don't mean to be a pain, but you radiator overflow looks brown in the picture, you gut rust in you cooling system? Anything other than green is not good for that year truck.
