rear axle placement

ok, i have a good problem... one i havent heard of in a while...

ok as most of you know... i have the built up suspention... i have the bds suspentions shackel flip, a set of 3/4 ton springs, and 3 inch add a leaf. so i got the zero rate block. and i put everything on... and now i went to hook up my drive shaft... ( to the new dana 60) and everything bolted up and the zero rate is pushed backwards all the way, and the rear axle still sits to far foward, its about 3 or 4 inchs to far foward... i need to push it back...

i dont know if this is becasue the 2500 springs ahve a differant " pin" point on the spring, if the inch add a leaf is pushing it to far, or if the shackle flip is bolted wrong,,, but i need to fix this problem, because if the axle sat center in the rear axle, the stock driveshaft would work, but sense it is to far foward, the driveshaft is to far

anybody???

i think your problem may be in the shackle flip.

if you move the rear spring mount down but leave the front in the same place you will end up moving the axle mount forward. adding a block will only make it worse.

I don't know and I'm just thinking, but is there any possibility the springs have a front and rear? You know, like the pin is not in the center.

^ +1 check the springs to see if the pin is centered, or off-centered. if off-centered, investigate flipping the springs around.

meanwhitemopar 09-18-2009 06:28 AM

yes, i will check into the springs not centered... and i put in a zero rate blcok, its a 1 inch block that pushs the axle back to the ceter part... to liek undo the pushing of the axle that the shackle flip did... but i will check on the front to rear of the springs...

Are the axle hangars vertical? Had to center the hangars on a Jeep once. Also did you measure center pin to center pin on the replacement springs?

meanwhitemopar 09-18-2009 02:13 PM

well zman, when your right, yoru right... the springs from front hanger, to center pin, is 27.5 inch, then from center pin to rear shackle mount, is 32 inch, so if i take them out, flip them around, it wil push them bakc the 4 inch i need.... and then go from there to center it with the zero rates if needed.. but thanks guys, big help

and yes, my shackles are straight... verticle, that was one of the first things i asked my dad...

Awesome, I hope it all works out for you.
