Default Volant Cold Air Intake or S&B Intake

I'm trying to decide between these two cold air intakes for my 98 5.9. I like how you can add Ram Air to the Volant later on if you want. I also like how they are both fully enclosed. Anybody here have these intakes? Any input? Thanks...

I have only used the 14x3 air cleaned because they are cheap and things I've read from people who actually did tests had good results. I do have a friend who swears by the S&B intakes, I helped install some on his trucks, I can tell you they are made just as cheaply as everything else.

I have a volant and like it. The main reason I like it is that I can't here it while driving normally , but when you step on it thats when you hear it. However I cant say i feel a difference, a little better throttle responce. It also feels solidly built, and it fit perfect also I got it for 120$ off Amazon. It was sold as used because the box was damaged. I was only missing the carb sticker. Called them up and they had it to me in on the second day. I don't think I would pay any more.

Try a throttle body spacer instead.

If I didn't get my Volant for a real good deal, I Would never waste the money for a CAI. The OEM intake is not all that bad. And in my book , way better than a 14x3 mod. Unless you like sucking in hotter air and the sucking noise to boot. I did also install a colder air source on mine for a couple bucks instead of getting the one Volant sells.

Unless you have a lot of motor mods planned, stay with the stock system.

That said I like my 14x3 chromie...far better than my FIPK.

I'd like to know the IATs you guys run with a "CAI". I suck air from under the hood right next to the radiator and my IATs are very reasonable.

I will try to remember to check the IAT next time I am running my scanner, It would be nice to see the difference if anyone else is able to check their IATs, right now I might be able to catch a 70* day.

I have the Volant CAI. I was lucky enough that it came with the truck when I bought it. I also made my own ram scoop and see a difference, but I also tricked out my throttle body by cleaning off the air dams and polishing it up.
