CAD won't engage

Hey guys,

Don't know why it took me so long to join one of these forums. I've got an '01 Ram 1500 4WD Sport w/ Club Cab. It's my off road machine, only downside is it's in need of repair. Blew a front axle seal and filled it with mud, now the 4WD auto hubs won't engage. Not really familiar with auto hubs(always had manuals). I like not having to get out of the truck, but I really want to get it fixed. If anybody can give any advice or technical expertise I would be extremely grateful.

The hubs on these trucks are nothing more than big bearings. Connection to the transfer case output is done via the CAD (Center Axle Disconnect), which is operated by engine vacuum. The system is very prone to malfunction and failure. Do a search for "No X4" (with the quotes) and you'll get a quick education on this system and ways to bypass it for more reliability. Welcome to DF.

Thanks you guys. Glad to see there's a forum that's actually helpful. I wish I had more to offer in the technical realm. I know a fair share about muddin' and 4 wheelin' and lots of basics and fundamentals on trucks. At the very least if I get my rig up and runnin' soon I'll definitely post stuff here.
Thanks again everybody.
