Please help Truck Won't Start.
ok, First of all, I'm not Mechanicly Inclined at all, so don't kill me here. :icon_couchhide:
On Thursday, I went out to start my truck to go to school, and It acted like the battery was dead, so last night, I finally got around to putting on a Battery Charger, and left it on overnight, now I went out to start it about an hour ago, and the battery doesnt act like it's dead any more, but It won't start, it turns over, and if I keep my foot on the gas a little, it revs, but doesnt sound very good and smokes some, which it never did before, and has an awful belt squeek, but as soon as I take my foot off the gas, it dies. Anyone know? I do not have the slightest of a clue, Oil level is fine, and it always has held Good pressure, always a little over the 40 mark. It only has 100,400 miles on the 318, which I know is a great motor, and it always ran great pior to this. I would appreciate any help thanks. |
So are you saying that it starts but barely runs or that it doesn't start? It will no rev when you step on the throttle if it isn't running. If you can get it running I say rev it up a bit and see what happens. We don't have much info here.
Does anything look wrong with the belt that would cause the sqeak? |
sounds like the alt
|
Sounds like alternator to me
But won't know for sure without more info. That squealing noise is probably altenator bearing
|
These trucks will not run with a dead battery unlike other trucks and cars. That said it sounds like you may have two problems one would be the Alt. the other would be a bad battery. I would start by taking them both to the auto parts store and having them tested.
Just my $.02 |
Check to make sure one of your pulleys isnt seized up also.

Sorry for the bad Description, It won't start, unless I have my foot on the gas, and, but the second I take my foot off, it dies.

still might be a bad cell in the battery. You could try a different battery or hook up the charger and leave it on. That is what happens when my battery is low on voltage when I forget to turn the interior lights off.

Dealer found that the battery had a dead cell in it. The throttle position sensor needs 14 volts during open loop or will not function correctly. Have the battery and alternator checked. Make sure they are good before replacing other parts. Dave |
