98' Ram Won't Start And Dies
 

Hello, I'm new to the forum. I have a 98' Dodge Ram 1500 with a 318. The truck has died on me twice on the road and will die while idleing sometimes, and now the truck won't start at all. I thought it was a fuel pump off the start but i took off the little cap on the manifold and i'm getting ALOT of fuel when it cranks.. so i'm clueless now? sensor? something else? any help would be much appreciated!

Try the search feature. There are dozens of threads on this subject.Probably the IAC or TPS.

Welcome to DF countryboy. Thank you for taking the time to make a basic signature for your posts, most new users don't know to do that. Maybe add a few more tidbits about your truck in there though... engine size, 4x4 or 4x2, etc. I know you posted it in this thread here, but its a pain for you to have to remember to post that every time you ask a question, when it can be in your signature and you don't have to worry about it.

I agree with hamfamil, test or replace the IAC and TPS units on your throttle body.

so you got fuel pressure. good.
try pressing the gas pedal a little to open the throttle plate.
check for spark at the plugs. (coil, rotor, cap).

You should check the fuel pressure with a gauge. And if it does not stay running with your foot on the gas,could be the coil, crank sensor or cam sensor.Each one of those items can be tested per the Haynes manual or by downloading this https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...-gen-rams.html . Okay I tried for spark on the coil.. Nothing. And I plugged in my buddies code reader and it came up with P0230, was looking around on the internet this morning but kept on getting a bunch of different answers.. anyone know?

P0230 Fuel Pump Relay Control Circuit

you're probably losing spark due to ASD shutdown. (auto shut down). the PCM has decided there is something wrong and its killing coil spark and fuel pump to prevent fire or whatever.

locate Fuel Pump relay in power distribution box next to battery and swap it with another to see if it makes any difference.

if its not just a simple fuel pump or relay, these can be difficult to diagnose w/o a scanner tool to tell you what's going on inside the computer.
