01 ram 2500 whining noise
Hello everybody! I am new to the forum and have a question about my new dodge ram.
My truck I just recently purchased is a 2001 ram 2500 2wd with the 5.9l gas v8 and an auto tranny.
My poblem is a somewhat loud whining noise that comes from under the hood. If I am coasting say at 40 mph and I just barely press on the accelerator (not even enough to make the truck accelerate) the noise appears. The best way I can describe it is a whine or hum and the second I let my foot off of the gas it goes away. Also if I accelerate heavily I can't hear it but of course the normal motor noise kicks in then so it could still be there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, it dosent seem to be a major problem but it is a bit annoying.

Any clues anyone?????
I just traded for a 97 4x4 w/318 and I have te exacy same issue. Barely touch the gas prdal and it whines, let off and it goes away. It is starting to drive me insane! lol I just want to know where to start so that I can fix it. All fluids and levels good. Maybe a wheel bearing? but I would think it would be noisy all the time. Any help greatly appreciated.

Way back in the day my first car..a Mercury Cougar..did the exact thing your saying.
It was the belt tensioner. It was quiet running around town, but at certain speeds it would begin to sound just like a turbo charger. Apply a little throttle and it would get real loud, let off or floorboard it and the noise would go away.
