Default ball joint......

I am having a hard time removing my ball joints.I rented the ball join press from advance auto but i cant figure out how to make it fit.the c-clamp part is too long and hits the spindle assembly top and bottom.do i have to remove the spindle assembly before i use the c-clamp tool.i heard that this right kit to use but i'm not having much luck.My truck is 2wd.

can't you just torch the old ball joint out and then chisel/hammer out the rest?

Have to remove the spindle first. Use two hammers. Big ones. I have two 30 ounce single jacks. Press one against one side of the 'ear' the balljoint fits thru, and smack the other side. Should pop 'em right off with two or three good hits.

Once the spindle is off, (make REAL sure you have the lower control arm supported on a jack stand, or some such, else when the spindle pops off, you will get a RUDE surprise.) the ball joint press should fit in there nicely.
