4wd Questions

I was using my 4wd the other day and I think I am having a few problems with it, but I wanted to run it by you guys first. Instead of shifting the 4wd shifter down to go until 4-high, I have to shift up one notch and then the light comes on indicating 4wd. Then if I try to go to 4-low, which is past neutral, it sort of clanks and then goes in, but the light never comes on. So I am not sure if the 4-low is activated or if the light just does not come on. Does anyone else have or had this problem and know what it might be? I dont know why 4-high is above 2-high, since the shifter says actually says 4-high is below, so I am just confused. Please help, thanks.

RE: 4wd Questions

it should be

4L
N
2H
4H

and mine makes a slight clank at first when I shift into 4L and put it into gear and let the clutch out. it's not a big clank, but it's enough to let me know it's engaged.

if your haveing problems with the light it might be a problem with the switch thats attached to the shift linkage

if your in 4L, you'll know it for sure, your top speed in 1st might be 5~10 mph and you will creep along

I dont know if the 4h and 2 H are switched but i would try driving alittle to see if the light comes on. i have to drive foward alittle sometimes and then it will pop on. i think it might be just a bad conection

the position of your stick for four high and 2 low and what not means nothing...thats just the way the transfer case was made. any noise being made going into 4 low for an automatic means you didnt put your tranny into neutral before shifting into four low. dont worry about the idiot lights. you should be able to feel when your vehicle is in four wheel drive. just like a good driver with a clutch can feel his clutch.
