Default Seat belt issue

Guys, My seat belts are retracted and wont come out.

What I did was remove the middle seat and replace it with a piece of plywood over the mount tabs(more room fr kids in back middle) . There is a black box under the middle seat that is screwed to it. I screwed this box back to the plywood. I believe its some crash sensor and is not letting the belts function now. It is plugged in and everything but I may have flipped i over during the work. Is this a roll over sensor? How Do I reset the thing so my belts work?

Thanks

I can't really find much on it in the service manual. The index references section 8D, but, my version of the manual doesn't have section 8C, OR 8D...... No clue what thats all about.

Try disconnection the battery, and then see if the seat belts release.

That box is the rollover sensor I believe, but I don't know how you would go about resetting it, or if that is even possible.... I would say that is the cause of your problem though, but I don't really know how it works... I had planned to mount a sub under there but once I saw that box I decided not to mess with it, and for good reason apparently....

Well, I fixed it.

Turns out installing the rollover sensor upside down, while easy to do, will not work properly.

So I re-installed right side up, and the seat belts work fine. No other reset is required, in fact Key off, i could flop the thing over and hear the seat belts lock and unlock. So its simply a gravity set of contacts.

LOLOL. Imagine that. having the rollover sensor think the truck is upside down confuses it?

Glad it was an easy fix.

Hey I have the same problem with a different reason. I installed the same kind of seat you have in my regular cab 2001 ram, but the solid bench seat that mine came with originally has no wiring harness for the black box you mentioned & I can not use the built in belts because of this. How would you guys release the belts?
