Oil Pan Gasket Leak w/ PICS - How easy to drop pan and fix?
 

So I noticed oil seeping around the oil pan gasket, not alot but enough that I want to fix it (1999 1500 4x4, 5.9L, 120,000 miles).

So how hard is this to do? Is it just a matter of removing the pan bolts?

The shop manual for the 2001's says:


(8) Remove the one-piece gasket.

Are 6 and 7 required????

no, all that's wrong.

have you tried just retorquing the pan bolts. sometimes that works.

if not,
drain oil.
remove engine to transmission braces.
disconnect battery.
remove starter.
remove flex plate cover.
remove oil pan.

I added pics. You can see a light sheen on the oil filter.

With that much in the back it cod very well be the rear main seal. There's a write up on pavement sucks as to how to fix it. If you are removing the pan anyway, I'd replace the rear main and oil pump just as a preventative measure as you'll have the thing all apart anyway and it won't take but another hour to do.

access oil left over from oil change or from the crappy fram filter leaking? j/k ( we all used fram one time or another.

u dont have to remove the exhaust pipe or lift the motor i did mine without even takin the flex plate cover off but would have made it easier if i did take it off
