Changing U-Joints - couple of Q's
How did you guys hold the axle still to take off the axle nut?
Also, any tips you might have for me to get this job done today? I've got the caliper and 3 9/16" bolts out on both sides. I had to go find a 1 11/16" socket last night that was 30 miles away. So now I'm set today to get it done. |
Put it in 4wd or put the wheel back on, lower the truck and remove the nut first. You can also wedge a pipe or large screw driver through the ujoint or the wheel studs to keep it from spinning. One more thing, you most likely will not get it done today, ;) And btw, what does "to get this job done today" mean? What job? Hub assembly? ujoint? seal? And fyi the three bolts are 14mm 12 point.
Ok DUHH! I've had too much rum! LOL Ujoints obviously. The joints alone might take all day ;) if you get there, when you reinstall the axles, be careful and do NOT ruin the seals when putting the shafts back in the tube(s). |
with tires off, i wedge a pipe through lugs, resting on the ground.
then use my 3/4 drive impact wrench... zman, you drinking in the morning again ? LOL |
