5/16" square socket required for band adjustment?
Looking at adjusting my trans bands, and have read that a 5/16" square socket is required for adjustment of the rear band in the pan.
Can someone confirm if this is true for a 2001 46re?
The FSM says I can adjust the front band using a torx bit (which I have), but is a little ambiguous on what to use for the rear band. I have read a couple write ups, and it seems some mention the 5/16" square socket (some don't say).
Also, I am having a bitch of a time trying to find a square socket.
I found a 5/16" npt pipe lug socket, but I am not sure if it will work (haven't measure it yet), as all pipe sizes seem to be slightly off their nominal dimension. Anyone use one of these with any luck?
Anyone know of a good place to get a 5/16" square socket?
Or a method to make one?
Thanks,
Chris

Yeah, I did consider that, but I was worried about stripping the head off of it. That would really ruin my day.
I know 72 in*lbs isn't much, but I would prefer to find the proper socket (or something close), if possible.
I am not in a huge rush to get it adjusted, but it is time for it to be done.

If no rush here is one for $4...

The drive size is in the pic, its 3/8 x 5/16
I had my transmission out when I adjusted mine, and was too lazy to run to the store to get one...

ÇóK`s pipe plug sockets are ideal for the removal of manual transmissions, transfer case, engine oil pan, differential housing drain, fill plugs and various other applications for both foreign and domestic vehicles
