headlights dont work

I was leavig for work this morning, turned on my lights, but only the parking lights worked. Got to work, turned the switch on, and nothing. Clicked on my brights, and it came on. Clicked it back to normal, and nothin. Checked connections, and nothing shorted from what I can tell. I have HIDs. Could this be a relay?

its probly the headlight switch, mine does the same thing when it goes out.

recheck the connections...Chinese HID light have a tendancy to do this...the ones in my dads truck do anyway...if theat doesnt do it plug and old bulb into the old harness and bypass them to test... But yeah the headlight switches are prone to failure in our rams..

Well, the bulb test showed my HIDs are the culprit. Plugged in a regular bulb and viola, it turned on. So I guess my Chinese set sucks lol. I would still like to continue using HIDs, so anybody got any suggestions on good, long lasting brands?

Heard really good things about this company. Lifetime warranty on the ballasts.

you have a short somewhere, possibly in the switch.

jasonw 05-08-2011 01:57 AM

Yup, the light switches are a common failure on these trucks. Pick one up from a junk yard with as low a mileage as you can for a replacement (make sure the salvage yard has some sort of at least short term warranty on it). Only permanent solution is to rewire the headlights with relays, and thats not a job for the timid. Instructions on that one in the FAQ section.

Sorry it took so long to reply. But the HIDs I had that went out were the slim ballasts kit from DDM Tuning. It was the Hi/Lo kit, and it sounded like the Hi/Lo switch went out, because my brights worked for some reason.
