Halo Led projector lights melting. Help
Im losing patience and steam with these headlights.
Below you can catch up on the first few problems I ran into installing these lights. https://dodgeforum.com/forum/chop-sh...-and-then.html Now, less then 2 weeks later, they have melted. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...k/IMAG0726.jpg http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...k/IMAG0729.jpg http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...k/IMAG0731.jpg Highbeams have melted the plastic. How do I know it was the highbeams? Because it is all I can run in order to see anything. I should of noticed this within the first few days, but the truck has been in the shop for the past 2 weeks and see's night driving for a total of maybe 15 mins a night when I have to go to work. I have contacted the company and hopefully they stand by their warranty. Either send me something else, or give me my money back. If I look into different lights, what does anyone suggest? |
Aren't those the wrong lights for your truck? Those look like sport model lights that have two bulbs but your truck doesn't look like a sport model.
|
NOpe. They are for 1500, 2500 3500. The dealer put in big letters not for sports model. The second halo projector is just for looks . There is no bulb in it
|
Edit, looking at those pics, it looks like maybe I was wrong, are those outer bulbs in a reflector or projector housing? Those are way too small to shed the heat. What wattage and type of bulbs are you running.
Get HIDs fire the projector lens and you won't have to over use the high beams. |
never seen that type of projector have a problem with melting the lense but that might be because your wiring is f'd up according to your other thread fix the wiring first you going have to swap the high and low wires.

I found your write up on how to do this on another post. I was also told that the lights might of come with the wrong bulb for my truck? Which would be why my high beam light indicator is on all the time? Is this something you have heard of? |

Get HIDs fire the projector lens and you won't have to over use the high beams. Outer bulbs? The blinker light? Or the headlight it self. These are Voltex / Spyder lights and stated direct OE Replacement. (94-01 Dodge Ram 1500, 2500, 3500 DOES NOT FIT 99-01 DODGE RAM PICKUP SPORT MODEL(9007 LOW BEAM AND 9004 HIGH BEAM) <This is what the dealer had stated for these headlights. Other then that no idea about the wattage. The only wiring I had to do, (well at this point my mechanic) was piggy back the led lights to the (drawing a blank... marker lights?) |

I guess a picture of them light up would be nice. |
They must be wired up wrong. Mine work just fine for high beam and low beam. Here is a pic of mine on low beam (I'm switching to HID low beams of fogs so it will throw more light). I wired them in months ago, so I don't remember exactly how they went.

I just noticed, you have LED's across the whole top section. The rest of the headlight looks the same though. There are tons of headlight options for these trucks.

^Thank you for explaining it. I ended up complaining to the company and they let me keep the lights and gave me a full refund. By the time I got the grill on my truck the snow hit montana and I havn't gotten a chance to redo my harness or change bulbs around. I still havn't figured out if Im going to change the harness around or get new lights.
Good luck! |
Cool...I left some feedback on the installation youtube videos It funny there were alot of complains from other having the same problem...
|
Hmmm. Seem like the stock ones work good nuff 4 me. If it works don't fix it I always say.

spyder projectors
thanks guys I did complain to ebay seller, they openly mentioned they had problems with the smoked spyder ones melting, yet they still sale them, leaving peoples lives at risk.
left me hanging, as they try to solve my problem due to the wiring issue. I am not going to ship them back I will bite the bullet on this, I cant with a clear conscious send them back to be sold to someone else and put there life at risk due to melt down. in addition I emailed complaints on the spyder site. for these lights. http://www.spyderauto.com/product.ph...DLIGHTS-CHROME regarding same concerns. I found a good link to a possible problem solve Dodge Ram (Sport Headlights) Super Heavy Duty Conversion Harness w/4 relays 9004 sold at suvlights.com hope this is the fix and helps others with there investment. or is it still the crossed wire issue. unfortunately there site is down for maintenance |

when you swapped the 2 wires, (which ones)
do you meen from the stock dodge headlight plugs, or ? ballasts ? in addition to that, did you still have to use 1 or 2 relay wiring harnesses. or are they now just plug and play. I'm still working on the issue. I seen the post on utube. COMMENTS: FYI these are not wired correctly for the non sport rams and need to have two wires that have to be swapped to function correctly and reach full light output fathergratwick @fathergratwick Our lights will not fit Sport models.. but we do provide the harness for them Specdtuninginfo I'm waiting to hear back from them now with a guarantee the wiring harness will resolve the issues |

I actually found the diagram here from another member a few years ago telling me which ones to swap I searched to find it but the above was all I found... sport rams have two plugs and use 9007 bulbs and another I believe. If the weather clears up I try to pull one of mine and see what wires I swapped... |

Mine Are Finally Working. Both Hi-Beam And Low-Beam Independently.
The Issue With My Set, Was With The Low-Beam Wiring. SWITCHED: The Positive And Negative On The Low-Beam, And They Seem To Be Working Fine For Now. No Relay Harness No Load Resisters No Anti-Flickering Capasitors No HID Warning Canceller After Market Parts Needed. Thanks For Your Efforts. o.O _\/,, Peace ouT |
