Tailgate doesn't release.....unless I pull a Fonzie.
When I pull up on my tailgate handle it doesn't release the latches. However, if I hit it inside the bed right behind the handle 4 times it will open when I have the handle lifted.
What should I be looking to replace? The release cable, the handle mechanism itself? |
First thing I would do, is lubricate the snot out of everything in there that moves.
|
I have some bearing grease that I can use and see if that works.
|
I like the spray white lithium grease. Goes where ya want it to, and isn't quite so messy.
|
Yep, next time you get it open, remove the plate on the inside, unbolt the latches from the sides, and pull the whole unit out from the TG. Clean and lubricate everything. And reinstall.
Sorry, Im meant the bolts from the inside. (that hold the pull) |
Good point. I'll go pick some up. I have a can of WD40 I can use, but I would rather get something a little more than "household".
|
Using something like PB blaster on it FIRST, before you lube it up, to make sure that thing move easily, and aren't really rusted up, might not be such a bad plan either.

PB sucks!!!!!!!!! Get some Cyclo Breakaway. After you clean the back of the handle mechanism ,latches, the rods(and plastic clips),use some grease or CRC or Cyclo white lithium grease to lube them up.
You can also get new bushings for the pivots from the HELP section. (might have to order them depending on what part store you go to). Attachment 62897 |
