Default Clicking Sound in 4wd

The clicking sound I'm trying to isolate is NOT the result of front axle U-joints as they are new. There is a clicking sound in 4wd high or low when turning left or right but not going straight and not in 2wd at all. When in 4wd and in a turn I can put it back to 2wd and the click will continue til I straighten the wheel and the 4wd disengages, then no more clicking at all. The joints in the front drive shaft are tight and free of slop and I just climbed a very steep grassy hill in 4 high and low so the tc is working as well. Truck drives fine with no steering sloppyness or issues and with 189000 miles amazes me. It's strictly a poser cuz here in Fl. there's nothing to do in 4wd but go muddin' and that ain't happenin. Any experience in this matter? Thanks---Bud

Don't turn in 4wd on pavement! You'll break an axle, transfer case, or front axle. You're hearing the axle trying to skip on the pavement. Its not an awd truck, it's a 4wd truck, no pavement in 4wd.

I also second the NO 4wd on dry pavement ....if 4wd is not needed don't use it . On dirt/mud/ice and snow the loss of traction will allow tires to slip , on pavement all that force is transferred directly into axles and drive lines.

Mine makes a clicking noise and will come to a complete stop (idling) when I turn in 4wd.

Nope, only turning in a grassy lot situation, no tarmac in any case.

I don't know how to test for that but it's rythmic and sounds like it clicks with every rotation of the driveshaft not the axle shafts.
